US POSTMASTER GENERAL DELAYS IMPORTANT CHANGE

U.S. Post Office delays
implementation of the
Intelligent Mail Barcode.

In a rare move Postmaster General John E. Potter has postponed the mandatory implementation of the Intelligent Mail Barcode (IMB).  Originally scheduled for January 2009 the new effective date will be concurrent with the May 2009 rate case.

Mailers, organizations and postal customers had responded in large numbers that the anticipated start date for IMB was not in anyone’s best interest and that at least some additional time was necessary for this important technology change.

The IMB implementation was something that you the client just had to be aware of and that we, your mailer, had to use on your behalf.  The extra time will allow all professional mailers to be in a better position to use the IMB at maximum effect on your mailings.

We will continue to advise you as the USPS announces any additional changes that affect our processing of your mail
